Hearing on JFX speed camera bill reveals Baltimore having trouble collecting fines
"Both the actual revenue, sort of projected, and the revenue amount collected from speed cameras is relatively less than they had expected it to be, I think, because there's less citations issued and collections of those citations has been more of a challenge than they initially expected," Baltimore City Delegate Mark Edelson, D-District 46.

What to watch in the 2023 Maryland General Assembly
Most of the rest of the big transportation bills this session can be classified as focusing on equity. For example... HB 673 and SB 617 or the Fair Fares Act, from Del. Mark Edelson (D-Baltimore City) and Sen. Shelly Hettleman (D-Baltimore County), which would, among other things, decouple MTA fares from inflation, almost certainly preventing yet another price hike this summer.

City officials address concerns over juvenile crime and suspect release in letter to Baltimore Police Commissioner and Department of Juvenile Services
“I joined my colleagues in the letter we co-authored in order to speak in a clear and united voice of city and state elected officials on behalf of our communities. The recent series of juvenile suspects being arrested for violent crimes and then being released shortly thereafter is an operational breakdown that must be corrected with the utmost urgency. The laws and policies currently on the books, if followed, would have and should have led to different results. Ones that prioritize justice for the victim, safety for our communities, and both accountability and structured support and rehabilitation for the offenders. All of our residents deserve nothing less.”

Cheaper housing production in Maryland? Parking reform bills take a swing
“Given how expensive we know it is to build parking structures in this city, it can be about $15-30,000 per space, in residential buildings, those costs end up getting defrayed onto the tenant. It makes the cost of the housing so much more expensive,” Edelson said. “So taking that away and ideally putting some of that money frankly into bikeability, walkability, and easy access to transit will make those units more affordable and ideally change sort of the culture of how we build from building for cars to building for people and transit.”
